Lives in Tegna, Switzerland
After completing degrees in art history, archaeology and journalism in
Paris, Harald Szeemann was appointed director of the Kunsthalle in Berne,
a post he held until 1969. He then ran a freelance exhibition design agency,
the "Agency for Intelligent Guest-Work" ("Agentur für geistige Gastarbeit"),
and since 1981 has also acted as an independent curator for the Kunsthaus
in Zurich.
Harald Szeeman has many internationally acclaimed exhibitions to his
name, including:
"Happening und Fluxus" (1970),"The Bachelor Machine",
in the Kunsthaus in Zurich: "Monte Verità" (1978), "De Sculptura" (1986), "Einleuchten" (1989), "The Tendency Toward a Total Work of Art" (1983), "Visionary Switzerland" (1991) et al.
"Austria in the Web of Roses" in the MAK Vienna, also shown in Zürich
und Brussels;
in 1972 he designed the legendary "documenta 5",
in 1997 he ran the Biennale in Lyon,
in 1999 und 2001 he ran the Venice Biennale;
"Money and Value: The Last Taboo" (Expo 2002)

He has published numerous books and essays, including
"Museum der Obsessionen" [Museums of Obsession], "Individuelle Mythologien"
[Individual Mythologies], "Zeitlos auf Zeit" [Timeless for a While].
